
ABOUT SUMANTH MANJUNATH
Sumanth Manjunath is an exceptionally meritorious and virtuosic third-generation Carnatic violinist, widely admired for his remarkable technique, expressive depth, and captivating stage presence. Born into one of India’s most illustrious musical families, he is the son and disciple of violin maestro Dr. Mysore Manjunath. From an early age, Sumanth was immersed in a deeply musical environment and trained rigorously under the guidance of his grandfather Sri Mahadevappa, his father, and his uncle, violin maestro Mysore Nagaraj. His debut concert at the age of eight instantly marked him as a child prodigy, astonishing audiences with his innate musicality and mature command of the instrument.
Over the years, Sumanth has built an impressive performance career, presenting solo concerts and collaborative projects across 25+ countries. His international appearances include prestigious venues and festivals such as Oxford University, Cambridge University, the Sommerwerft Festival in Germany, Bari Jazz Festival in Italy, Yecla Festival in Spain, the Persian Academy of Music (Iran), Jaffna University, and HKU University in the Netherlands. He has performed for Indian Cultural Embassies worldwide and was specially invited to deliver a distinguished concert at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Republic Day 2025 before the Presidents of India and Indonesia and the Prime Minister of India.
Sumanth’s musical versatility extends across a wide spectrum of collaborations with Western classical, jazz, Persian, Arabic, flamenco, Turkish and contemporary musicians. He has shared the stage with legendary percussionists including Padmashri Yella Venkateshwara Rao, Sangita Kalanidhi T. Bhaktavatsalam, Patri Satish Kumar, Srimushnam Rajarao, and Arjun Kumar, and has presented acclaimed jugalbandis with leading Hindustani musicians, including Padma Bhushan and Grammy-winner Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt.
A top-ranking academic performer as well, Sumanth completed his Master’s degree in Music from Mysore University with a gold medal. He has the distinction of presenting the first-ever Indian classical violin concerts at institutions such as the University of Lille (France) and the University of Surrey (UK). His collaborative projects include performances with prominent international artists such as Ned McGowan, Ariana Kim, Julius Gabriel, Julianno Modarelli, and the Polish jazz ensemble Jazz Po Polsku.
Honoring his contributions to cultural exchange, Sumanth has been appointed Cultural Representative of Seilerei, one of Frankfurt’s major multicultural communities. He continues to inspire audiences worldwide while upholding and expanding the rich legacy of Indian classical music.
